Is '90210' trying to be just like 'Beverly Hills'?

After watching two segments of the premiere of "90210," it is clear what road the network and the show's creators are going in: Copy what's worked in the '90s and all will be well. If only things were that simple.

There are a lot of things wrong with some of the storylines and I found myself wanting to learn more about the older characters from the school. Why not make a better quality series centered on the school's principal (Rob Estes), his wife (Lori Loughlin), the hot teacher (Ryan Eggold), and the guidance counselor (Jenni Garth). And why not throw in Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty) too?

Compared to other CW shows of similar premises (coughgossipgirlcough), "90210" is light years behind in even becoming close to that standard or even becoming the 21st century version of its predecessor. A lot of the plot points felt extremely contrived and barely anything was remotely natural or believable.

Will I be tuning in next Tuesday? I probably shouldn't, but I probably will. Damn the CW.
